Eggshell fertilizer

Eggshell is the outer hard protective covering of the eggs. Fundamentally it is composed up of 95-97 % calcium carbonate, which is stabilized by some protiens. Eggshell can be used to correct the calcium deficiency is the soils. It can easily be purchased from the online stores. Chicken eggs are consumed in most of the house, where eggshells are thrown as a waste. These chicken eggshells can easily be converted into calcium fertilizer in the home. This is a very good and cheap calcium fertilizer to boost up the flowering as well fruiting in plants.

How to prepare eggshell fertilizer at home?

Take 10 to 20 broken eggshells of chicken and clean any dirt attached to shell.

Dip eggshells into clean water and romove inside membrane carefully.

Let the eggshells dry in bright sunlight.


After proper drying, take all the shells into the grinder/mixer machine and grind it for upto 5 minutes.

When homogeneous powder is obtained, pack it into zip-bag.

Eggshell fertilizer is now ready to used as calcium fertilizer.



How to apply eggshell fertilizer?

Remove the top soil around the plant by gardening tool.

Mix the eggshell poweder @ 2-5 g per kg dried soil.

After thorough mixing, put the soil around the plant and water the plant by shower.

Eggshell fertilizer can be used to correct the calcium deficiency in following diseases.
  • Blossom/styler end rot of guava.
  • Blossom/styler end rot of bottle gourd.
  • Induction of flowering in lemon.
  • Induction of flowering in flowering plants.
